Note: ArdenNet does not give technical support for setting up filters on
clients user software:
ArdenNet has set up a spam detection system to
trash undesirable e-mail. However ArdenNet cannot
guarantee the 100% effectiveness of the system. We use a scoring system that
calculates the score of each e-mail then assume it to be spam or not.
As with our service agreement policy, ArdenNet is
not responsible for
lost or misdirected e-mail that may occur during transmission.
If you think that mail is being treated as spam, we can verify and
have a request to have the e-mails
put on our "white list", if it is approved should be allowed
to be delivered. Send email to us
with Subject "White list" and in the text forward the e-mail you
suspect is dropped.
ArdenNet does not solicit or sell
any of our customer's e-mail addresses. There are no simple
solutions
to the growing problem of spam that all
ISP's experiencing. ArdenNet Internet Services hopes that
the information and resources contained in this page will help you
understand and reduce the number of unwanted messages.
Unfortunately spammers with sophisticated software that permits a person to send large numbers of
messages to a particular domain (such as @AOL, @yahoo.com or
@ArdenNet.com etc.), even if the e-mail address are unknown starts with 123, 234, 345, etc. or aaa, aab, aac, etc. when the e-mail
address is invalid it "bounces"
back as undeliverable most of the time to a fake e-mail address. If the email address is valid, then chances are the spammers create a
list and sell them.
Here are some hints and tips to prevent
some of the junk e-mail:
- Avoid signing
up for mailing lists, if you do use a free account from Yahoo or
Hotmail.
- Avoid attempting to reply to or contact the spammer by e-mail.
- Avoid
clicking the "E-mail
this story to a friend" rather copy the URL and then
e-mail.
- Purchase
McAfee
SpamKiller software online. ( ArdenNet spam filters and
Spamkiller $39
will complement each other, and you should see a improvement)
- Change e-mail address for a $5 fee.
- Create a filter for your inbox.
- View the full headers, copy the text
and e-mail as an attachment to the senders originating ISP,
generally support@xxx.com or abuse@xxx.com
(xxx = domain)
